Well as most of you already know we gave the title on a "Who Dat" platter to the Saints.   The same peopel who made this season so much fun to watch were the ones who could not give us that one play that could put us into the Super Bowl.  There were sooooo many mistakes made at the wrong time and we still got it to overtime.  Did anybody really think that when we called the coin flip we would get that right??    Lets face it this will hurt for along time and we will think about "what could have been".  It still was a great year to follow Viking football.

I write this with great humility to both the Green Bay Packers and the state of Wisconsin. I want to thank you from the bottom of my Leinenkugel beer for letting Brett Favre go. Hutchinson Fire Department Update

9/8/2009
There was a fatal crash on Saturday at the corner of Tagus Ave and Belle Lake Rd.   A head on collision that resulted in the death of 33 year-old Glen Nussbaum of Stewart.  The other car was occupied by Arlin and Shirley Otto both 76 years old of Hutchinson.  They were transported to Hutchinson Community Hospital.

According to witnesses
the Otto's were behind another car going south when Glen Nussbaum's car crossed the center line.  The car in-front of the Otto's veered, just missing and the car hit the Otto's head on.   There was another car behind the Otto's but they veered into the ditch and narrowly missed being seriously hurt.

From Rep. Shimanski at the Capital

7/28/2009
Dear Neighbors:

A new batch of laws took effect August 1, including changes affecting everything from laborers to fallen firefighters, fishing and ATVs. Here is an overview of those changes and more:

GAME, FISH AND FOREST REGULATIONS UPDATED All-terrain vehicle drivers are subject to new penalties designed to protect wetlands and other environmentally sensitive areas. Violations are a gross misdemeanor and may result in license suspension and/or the seizure of the vehicle upon a second offense.

Off-highway motorcycle riders under age 16 were required to ride alongside another rider age 18 or older, which prevented them from legally participating in track-style events. The law is revised so that they may now ride while under adult supervision.

Several changes are made regarding state parks.

Housing Crisis Or Housing Boom?

7/22/2009
This morning at the Hutchinson Event Center Mike Shrupp from Wells Fargo presented a seminar to local real estate professionals and title company closers.   It was attended by about 40 people and they were reminded that this time in our lives is not the worst.  Some of what was compared to was the steady increase in income and wealth this country has had since the early 1920's.   During the Great Depression unemployment rates were 25% but that did not include women in the workforce.  It was more like 45% actually.  So....

Verne Meyer vs. Randy Redman.

This match was like no other match played between us. Normally the points go back and forth and for long periods of time. A couple of years ago we played the third set and agreed to not play a tie breaker. The score was 24-22 and about 3 hours of play. Needless to say Verne Meyer was victorious that time and every time since then. But, this week I was the victor and not by a small margin. Even thought the first set was close at 6-4 the second set was a site to behold. 6-1 was the final score and the crowd went wild. Oh…there was no crowd but it still was a momentous match.

I told Verne that it must have been the “spoils” of being able to....

The Fourth of July is one day we unite to celebrate the freedom and liberty Americans enjoy on Independence Day and all 364 other days of the year.

There will be parades, picnics, concerts, fireworks and reunions.
Displays of America’s Red, White and Blue will fill the landscape as we honor our forefathers who put their life and fortune on the line to break free from tyranny. The courage it took for our forefathers to reject oppression - and then prove their resolve in the Revolutionary War - cannot be overstated.

Our American spirit has remained strong for more than 230 years, but here are a few ways we can stoke the patriotic flames:

We found a garden of gardens, the bee home of bee homes, and the hobby of hobbies’.   The landscaping was beyond words so we have videoed the visual experience for you.

The moment you enter this garden the scent of flowers overpowers you. The only other place I have smelled such a fragrance was in the Arboretum in St. Paul. We do not have smellavision but take my word for it this was amazing. Russ Messner, the owner allowed us to visit him and take a tour. If by chance you have a garden to remember please send in your video and we would be very happy to bring our noses out and verify you have one as good or better than this.

4/21/2009
Plan now for the Sixteenth Annual Relay For Life Fundraiser that will take place beginning at noon on Friday, August 7 at 7:00 a.m. until Saturday, August 8 at the Masonic West River Park in Hutchinson.  The Relay For Life is the signature fundraiser event of the American Cancer Society to raise funds for cancer research, education, advocacy and patient help. The Relay was born 25 years ago in the state of Washington. Teams committed to the Relay walk all night in honor of or in memory of a loved one. The path along the Crow River is lined with over 5,000 white luminaries. Each bag has been lovingly decorated by friends or family. At 9:00 p.m. Friday night, the candles in each bag are lit and burn all night. The Relay For Life is a volunteer driven event. Last year over 340 volunteers raised over $131,500 which is a McLeod County Relay record. For more information call Geri Johnson at 320-587-6733.

A Golfers Ultimate Hole of Golf

4/7/2009
This information came from Joshua Pearce and if you play golf you will be inspired or be more afraid than you ever thought.  If you don't play golf you will now wonder why we even try.   This should inspire the Hutchinson golfer who thinks hitting over a little body of water is why you duff the ball.  Clean you clubs because the time is nearly here.

This 900 yard par 3 is in South Africa. The green is shaped like the African continent and completely surrounded by a sea of sand. You hit off a cliff over 1,400 feet above the hole and it takes 26 seconds for your ball to land. You have to take a helicopter to get to the hole. They post spotters around the green to let you know where your ball lands because you can’t possibly see it. Padraig Harrington is the only person to ever par it. He did it in a playoff after a recent tournament there. It is the 19th-hole and only used for playoffs. Watch him do it…with a ‘sandy’ no less.
